Biography
Glenn Laughlin is a senior litigator with longstanding experience in varied areas of the law including business law, family law, wills and estates and real estate. The breadth of his experience is a strong asset when dealing with often complex legal issues.
Glenn’s approach to legal disputes recognizes that the first priority is always that the dispute be resolved. It would be preferable if this could be achieved by mediation or agreement between the parties, but if this is not possible, then the purpose of the court process is to provide a solution and bring the dispute to an end. In some cases, it will also end the relationship between the parties, and depending on the circumstances, this can have wider implications, especially in family or estate matters.
Glenn is a certified family law mediator, arbitrator and parenting coordinator accredited by the Law Society of British Columbia. While he is often in court, he is sensitive to the dynamics between litigants and tries to preserve goodwill if at all possible. Although the court may rule on a specific issue, this is rarely the end of the matter as the parties still have to deal with each other as the court decision is enforced.
Glenn has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia and across Western Canada and has practiced both as in-house counsel and in private practice. Prior to joining Centra Lawyers, he was a longtime senior and managing partner of a recognized lower mainland firm.
Glenn has lived in Maple Ridge for almost thirty years and raised his family here. He has served as a director of a local charity providing services to homeless and at-risk youth as well as being a longtime Kinsmen club member. He spends as much time possible outdoors and in nature, and travels when he can.
Glenn gives clear, practical advice to people navigating the legal system, and tries to keep his clients out of court altogether if possible. But if necessary, he takes pride in representing his clients in court effectively and getting good results.
